Excavation Safety

Course Outline:

The objective of this course is to train workers to safely work within and around excavations. The curriculum is designed to meet OSHA regulations 29 CFR 1926.650 - 652. The class includes both classroom and hands-on activities.

In this course, students learn to fulfill their assigned responsibilities associated with excavation work. The focus is on identifying and controlling hazards.

Course Content:

  • Performing the duties of the Competent Person
  • Identifying types of excavations & trench components
  • Knowing the different types of cave-ins.
  • Understanding the factors that cause cave-ins
  • Testing and Classifying soils according to OSHA specifications
  • Determining the proper protection systems for identified soil types and conditions
  • Identifying hazards, both in and around the excavation, that affect the safety of employees or the general public
  • Describing the elements of an excavation safety program
  • Completing a Competent Person routine safety inspection
  • Understanding OSHA regulations pertaining to excavation safety

Availability:

Upon Client’s Request. Six Participants are the required minimum.

Validity of Certification:

Valid for a maximum period of Twenty Four months .

None

Location:

HHSL Safety Systems Limited Training Facility or Venue convenient to Client upon request.

Note:

The Length of the class will vary based upon the existing knowledge of the students and the hazards they may encounter in their environment.
