SECTION ONE:

Initial assessment
  • Introduction to medic first aid
  • Introduction to primary assessment
  • Setup and barriers
  • Assess responsiveness & activate
  • Talk through scenario exercise
  • Assess airway & breathing
  • Assess circulation
  • Talk through scenario exercise
Focus on airway
  • Focus on airway (introduction) & opening the airway
  • Inspect & clear mouth, log roll, recovery position
  • Foreign body airway obstruction - responsive
  • Talk through scenario exercise
Focus on breathing
  • Focus on breathing (introduction) & rescue breathing
  • Foreign body obstruction - becoming/ found unresponsive
  • Talk through scenario exercise
Focus on circulation
  • Focus on circulation (introduction)
  • One rescuer bls/cpr
  • The chain of survival in occupational settings
  • Formal & informal debriefing
  • Control of bleeding - responsive
  • Control of bleeding - unresponsive
  • Shock management
  • Talk through scenario exercise
Ongoing assessment
  • Ongoing assessment

SECTION TWO:

  • Introduction to emergency care plan
  • Introduction to warning signs
    • Responsive iii - warning signs present:
      • Chest pain/pressure, shortness of breath, abdominal pain
    • Responsive iii - warning signs present:
      • Altered level of consciousness
  • Exposure to cold & heat
    • Responsive iii - no warning signs present:
    • Responsive iii - talk through scenario & exercise

SECTION THREE:

  • Introduction to mechanism of injury
  • Major mechanism - head, neck & back injuries
  • Major mechanism - painful, swollen or deformed limb
  • Major mechanism - head to toe assessment
  • Minor mechanism - physical assessment
  • Talk through scenario exercise
  • Emergency moves
  • Roles and responsibilities of medic first aid providers

Valid for a maximum period of Twenty Four months
